Olympic Athlete
Gladys Tejeda was born on September 30, 1985 in the province of Junín. She is the youngest of 9 siblings, who have always helped her parents in raising animals and growing fruits and vegetables.
As a child, Gladys excelled in different sports such as soccer, basketball and athletics. One of her first competitions was in a 7km race in the city of Junín, at the age of 11.
After graduating from high school, she studied teaching at the Universidad Mayor Nacional de San Marcos.
In March 2009, she was recruited by the Peruvian Institute of Sports after being observed in a competition in her native Junin. This is how Gladys started in high competition, quickly obtaining excellent results.
Gladys has participated in various events, winning the bronze medal at the Pan American Games Guadalajara2011 and the gold medal at the Pan American Games Lima 2019, where she also won the Pan American record. She has represented the country in 2 Olympic Games (London 2012 and Rio2016) and has already secured her qualification for the Tokyo2020 Olympic Games to be held in 2021, being the first Peruvian long-distance runner to qualify for three consecutive Olympic Games on her own merits.
